Smile! Click. There’s probably no other day in your life where you will be the focus of more photos than on your wedding day. This could be intimidating, but a few steps to prepare your skin and appearance will give you the confidence to be a radiant bride. Good skin care should start as soon as possible and be carried out for the rest of your life.

If you have always followed a skin care program and it has been working, stick with it. However, if you are like many ladies and you don’t have a skin care regimen, now is the time to start one. Changes to your skin care program can cause temporary outbreaks; therefore, if your wedding is fast approaching it may not be the best time to start something new. You know your skin, so use your best judgment when making those choices. There are many skin care lines available to work with and finding the right one may take some effort, but in the long run it will pay off.

You may even consider a visit to a dermatologist who can give you an overall idea of any problem areas and how to care for them. Most of us find ourselves feeling that we have “combination skin” type. Underlying skin issues might make us believe we just have dry or oily patches, when really there may be a treatable cause. We also frequently feel that youthful skin doesn’t need as much care, but research shows that good skin care and protection from the sun, will keep skin looking younger longer.

The most important aspect to caring for your skin is proper cleansing and moisturizing. Keeping the skin free of dirt and contaminants will prevent breakouts or blemishes.

If you don’t want to consider a whole skin care line, look for a good non-comedogenic cleansing product and follow it with a perfume free moisturizer. Reading the
ingredients to see how natural the product is, may be beneficial. Be sure to use care around the eye areas and don’t forget your neck area. If you don’t know where to begin, ask the pharmacist or cosmetic technician for a recommendation.

Another important aspect to skin care is exfoliating. Using a small puff on your face, gently a couple times a week, is about all you should need. Facial care puffs are available at most drug stores, Bed, Bath, and Beyond, or other stores where cosmetics are sold. Don’t be overzealous and do too much, or it may irritate your skin and cause breakouts. Remember, the blemish that shows up today, started in your skin long before it surfaced, maybe even weeks.

Finally, don’t forget the groom and his skin care needs. Men’s skin care is equally important, yet they don’t give it the attention they should. Daily shaving and exposure to the elements can leave their skin in poor condition. There are many skin care lines that cater to a man’s special needs, and sun protection should always be used. It may take some encouragement to get him to stick with it, but gentle reminders should help. Telling him you want to see his handsome face at it’s best is a nice way to let him know you care and that he’s attractive.
